September 2023 was about enjoying the long evenings, the wonderful light at the end of the day, videocalling friends, celebrating family Birthdays, getting excited about the leaves starting to change colour, attending a friends beautiful Wedding, and seeing the Cornish roads grow quieter.

What is the 'Month' series of Paintings?

Abstract paintings created by adding a single new brushstroke onto the painting everyday throughout the month.

I start with a primed cradled wooden board that has been painted with a different base colour on the first day of every month - for September, the base colour was a combo of Bright Pink and Naples Yellow.

I thought about creating a series of paintings like this while I was travelling in Laos. As well as writing in a journal about my travels I also starting making a visual diary of sorts in my sketchbook, where I would draw a different shape, in a different colour to symbolise each day. I would have pages filled with different coloured blobs that represented my travels.

Once back in Cornwall this evolved into the idea that I could start a new painting on the first day of every month and add one brushstoke each day until the end of the month. Once the month is over - the painting is finished, whether I like the end result or not!
